Leaders Romans Group (LRG) has launched its first sustainable branch in Kemptown, Brighton City Centre under the Leaders brand following a complete refurbishment as part of the group’s target to achieve net zero by 2030. To work towards that target, the new sustainable branch opened to the public on 8th September.

Brighton was chosen to be the location for the first sustainable branch due to its own eco-credentials and it being the city of Leaders first ever branch. Brighton is the most eco-friendly city in the UK, according to Garden of Life, it has the UK’s only MP from the Green Party and UNESCO has designated the Brighton & Lewes Downs Biosphere a place of biodiversity and quality of environment.

To complete the branch refit, LRG commissioned green office and retail design consultants Jackson Associates to completely refurbish and design the office to new green principles. All of the materials used have been produced with longevity in mind, to ensure the branch is not only sustainable today, but will continue to be so for years to come.

A prominent feature of the plan was that every element of the office was made in the UK, or ideally local to Brighton to limit transport emissions and support local green suppliers. Throughout the office there is a host of features that work in unison to make this the most sustainable model possible, for example:

  • 100% green energy – The branch is completely powered by renewable energy
  • 100% recycled or reused – All furniture in the branch is made from recycled or upcycled materials and will be recycled or upcycled at the end of its lifecycle.
  • Circular carpet – Carpet in the new branch is not only made from 65% post -industrial recycled content, but the supplier will repurpose and recycle the finished item when it reaches end of life.

LRG has implemented a strategic plan led by its dedicated Environmental Committee. The green commitment runs through every business decision with 95% of LRG staff finding it personally important for the business they work for to be sustainable.  In addition to the drive for sustainable branches, LRG has a set roadmap which includes the planting of 16,000 trees by 2023 in partnership with GreenTheUK, 100% renewable energy across the group and a zero-landfill strategy. Already, LRG has almost reached its target with the business already using 95% renewable energy across the group.

David Wilson, Chief Operating Officer at LRG, comments: “The property industry has a key part to play in halting the devastating effects of climate change. We already know that more tenants and homeowners are prioritising green home improvements to limit personal carbon emissions and it’s essential that this trend is replicated at an industry level. We are proud to lead on greener property management and develop a sustainable approach to business and real estate. It is time for the property sector to embrace the next big challenge and step up to help turn the industry green.”
