Winterbrook Meadows – Creating a Distinctive Village Extension
Boyer Design was invited by Berkeley Homes to review the masterplan for Winterbrook Meadows, located southwest of Wallingford. Following a detailed character appraisal, Boyer Design developed a vision that preserved the identity of Winterbrook while integrating it seamlessly as an extension of Wallingford, enhancing both the site’s value and the client’s product offering.
Our Involvement
Boyer Design worked closely with Berkeley Homes and South Oxfordshire District Council to shape a high-quality, well-integrated development. Berkeley were keen to deliver ‘something special’, and we helped them do just that! Boyer Design brought space, architecture and engineering together seamlessly leading to a quick and successful planning outcome. Key contributions included:
- Character Appraisal & Masterplanning – Assessing the local context to ensure the development complemented and preserved the identity of Winterbrook as a distinct yet connected village extension.
- Site-Wide Design Code – Developing a comprehensive Design Code in collaboration with the client and local planning authorities to guide the phased development of the site.
- Phased Reserved Matters Applications – Successfully securing consent for over 500 homes and apartments across four phases, ensuring a well-planned and cohesive design approach.
- Placemaking & Community Integration – Creating a masterplan that fosters a sense of place while delivering high-quality homes within a sustainable and well-connected neighbourhood.
Outcome & Impact
With planning permissions secured, construction is now underway, bringing Winterbrook Meadows to life as a thoughtfully designed extension of Wallingford. Boyer Design’s expertise in masterplanning and design has helped deliver a successful and attractive new community that respects its surroundings while adding significant value to the site.
