LRG has completed a significant programme of office upgrades across its UK network, with the relocation into its new group head office standing as the centrepiece of a wider, long-term commitment to sustainable workplaces.
The move into LRG’s new headquarters marked a major milestone for the business and set the benchmark for how sustainability is now approached across the group. Selected specifically for its strong environmental credentials, the building already held a BREEAM excellent rating and was refurbished in a way that preserved and respected that standard. In addition Solar power, intelligent lighting and energy-efficient heating and cooling systems were already in place, while the fit-out focused on retaining and reusing existing materials wherever possible. The majority of carpet tiles were kept in situ, design decisions were shaped around what already existed, and furniture from the previous head office was refurbished and redistributed across the branch network to reduce waste. The group’s new head office fit-out has achieved a SKA Gold rating, a UK sustainability assessment for commercial office refurbishments, recognising the project’s responsible approach to energy use, materials selection and waste reduction.
Colin O’Hara, Group Facilities & Procurement Director at LRG, commented “The new head office was a pivotal project for us, not just because of its scale, but because it set the standard for how we want to operate as a group. Sustainability was not something we added at the end of the process. It shaped the decisions we made from the outset, from selecting the building through to how we approached the refurbishment, reuse of materials and long-term energy efficiency.”
Alongside the head office relocation, LRG has delivered a series of major refurbishments and relocations across its estate, alongside smaller upgrades, all completed to the same sustainability standards. Key projects include the opening of a new fully sustainable branch office in Sheffield, the relocation of its Derby lettings team into a flagship office on Irongate, the refurbishment of the Dunlop Heywood head office in Manchester, and a full upgrade of Glide’s Poole office. The group also relocated its Derby Pride Park operations into a high-quality standalone office, retaining the majority of existing fixtures and fittings to minimise waste and reduce the carbon impact of the move.
Rather than treating sustainability as a standalone initiative, LRG now applies the same sustainable fit-out principles across all office works, regardless of scale. This includes the use of approved sustainable carpet tiles, LED lighting, low-flow fittings and responsibly sourced materials. Where offices require partial repairs or upgrades, these default to sustainable alternatives, ensuring environmental considerations are embedded into routine maintenance as well as larger projects.
David Wilson, Chief Operating Officer at LRG, commented, “Reducing our environmental impact is as much about behaviour and operational discipline as it is about the buildings themselves. By putting better systems, data and accountability in place, we are able to make smarter decisions day to day that lower energy use, reduce costs and support our longer-term carbon objectives.”
Looking ahead, LRG has confirmed further investment in 2026, including the opening of a new flagship office in Nottingham and plans for a second flagship location in Southampton. Around 20 further refurbishments are planned across the network, including the introduction of the first sustainable model offices for Chancellors following its acquisition by the group in 2025, ensuring new brands are integrated into the same long-term sustainability framework.
By embedding sustainable decision-making into everyday property management, LRG is taking a practical, measured approach to reducing its environmental impact while continuing to invest in high-quality workplaces that support its people and long-term growth.
